Shopify periodically updates its platform requirements and mandates API-level updates for app developers. The latest update involves a transition in how apps handle authentication (moving away from legacy offline tokens).
Here are the key facts regarding this update:
- The Official Deadline: Developers have until January 1, 2027, to complete this transition.
- The Issue: Due to an automated flag on Shopify’s backend, the warning banner was triggered prematurely for stores using offline token flows, long before the actual deadline.
- No Deprecated API Calls: Our API health reports confirm that no deprecated API calls have been made in the last 30 days.
We actively reached out to Shopify Support to investigate why this banner was surfaced so far ahead of schedule. While Shopify’s support teams confirmed that the deadline is indeed months away, their automated detection system prematurely triggered the notification.
Current Status
We are working directly with Shopify’s Internal App Team to resolve this display bug.
- Flag Removal in Progress: We have requested that Shopify clear or suppress this premature warning flag. We anticipate this will be updated and resolved on Shopify’s end shortly (typically within a week).
- Under-the-Hood Updates: In parallel, our engineering team is already working on implementing the required authentication updates so that Smart Wishlist remains fully compliant long before the 2027 deadline.
